These rainsticks are from the Andes in Chile. Once the dead wood is collected the villagers press thorns into the hollow shaft of the cactus. Little stones are poured into the end of the cactus and then capped. The rainstick sound is caused by the stones cascading over a multitude of cactus thorns. Every rainstick has it's own special sound.
